Synchronous Online Teaching
Synchronous online teaching is teaching that takes place online and in real time. This type of online teaching and learning is most comparable to the traditional setting of a physical classroom, just placed in an online environment. The teacher and students still interact with each other synchronously, or in real time, and can carry on (for the most part) just as they would in a physical classroom. Some tools that are used in synchronous online teaching include the use of chat rooms, live audio conversations, and video conferencing.
In some senses, as a teacher, teaching online synchronously would be easier than teaching online asynchronously. Because all members of the class "meet" online at the same time, the teacher can still have lectures, students can still ask questions, and demonstrations and the like can still be done. However, all of this class takes place in the comfort of a person's own home (or wherever else they may be).

Example: Adobe Connect
This is an example of Adobe Connect (UM Connect for the University of Minnesota), a synchronous online classroom. A few of the possible options on Adobe Connect are to show a presentation (slideshow), as shown in the first image, and to have students talk in breakout rooms, as shown in the second image.
